Tennis is an individual sport, popular and appreciated worldwide because it demands to the players, in addition to physical strength, precision, dexterity, coordination and resistance – aspects common to various sports – strategic acuity and mental factor. The game rectangle has dimensions of 23,76-23,78 meters per 10,97 meters, included the lateral alleys which are 1,37 meters large and they are valid only in double matches. The separating net has a height of 0,914 meters in the centre and 1,07 meters to the support poles which must be placed 0,914 meters out of the ground. The lines parallel to it are 6,40 meters distant from each side of the net; immediately after 5,49 are marked the stoke lines. Sufficient space for player’s movements must be present at the sides and at the bottom of the game ground: respectively of 3,65 and 6,40 meters for international matches and 3,05 and 5,50 meters for national matches.

The floor of tennis grounds can be various: grass, dirt, cement and synthetic. With reference to the last one, the physical and tennis features of this coat may vary according to the synthetic components used, but in general they are surfaces faster than the red dirt and slower than the cement.
They have features very similar to the cement but they result more elastic, guaranteeing to the ball a little wider and slower bounce.
The synthetic grounds generally don’t need a particular maintenance.
The ideal floor must allow the athletes an adequate hold to the ground to make them able to correctly and precisely set up the flashes, but important is also their safety, especially with reference to the strong solicitations of articulations that the sport requires.
